ISO publishes vocabulary for nanostructured materials

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) technical committee on nanotechnologies has published a vocabulary document on nanostructured materials, as part of the nanotechnologies vocabulary series defining terms used in the nanotechnology field to facilitate communication between organisations and individuals.
Nanostructured materials are those in which one or more components are in the nanoscale and the materials exhibit properties attributable to the presence of those components. They therefore have an internal or surface structure with a significant fraction of features, grains, voids or precipitates in the nanoscale. Articles that contain nano-objects or nanostructured materials are not necessarily nanostructured materials themselves. The standard also includes terms related to nanodispersion.
Other documents currently available from this series include core terms, carbon nano-objects, those at the nano/bio interface (CW 24 November 2011), nanoscale measurement and instrumentation, diagnostics and therapeutics for healthcare and nanomanufacturing processes.
